We used to have a problem with our neighbour's cats getting into our
yard etc. One thing that worked quite well for us in stopping the cats
was to put fly paper on top of our fence. The cats hated it and when
we noticed them on the fence trying to shake off the paper, it was
quite entertaining.

No problem :)
I can think of dozens of reasons why domestic pets shouldn't be alloweds to
roam neighborhoods at will. A few:
- while some neighbors won't mind your pet constantly on their property,
others will. With that in mind, its just the "neighborly" thing to do to

door-to-door. Someone should claim it.

Generally, I know the owners of most of the animals who wander into the
yard. That dog is two doors up the street, and that cat belongs to the
preacher in the next block, etc.
I guess it's just kinda one of those things you absorb without really
paying attention.

If it is a cat, a blast of cold water a few times when it is caught
will usually do the trick.

Sure, the cats roam other peoples' yards. With two exceptions (both
owned by the same people) so do the neighborhood dogs, and cats owned by
other people. I've never had to stop in the street for animals, but
I've routinely had to for idiot kids in the neighborhood who slide out
of their driveway

It seems that the dog community lost this round despite majority howling.

Better get those cats a bright orange collar! Maybe a blinking beacon
to go with it.
Seriously, though, I really don't see this working long-term.

When I was growing up my dog used to trick the cats into the pool in the
dead of the winter so they could freeze to death. He also would sometimes

I'd still rather just shoot the damn things when they get in my yard, I'd

Cats are about the best bird killers around. I remember seeing a
report that suggests the decline in song bird species in North America
is related to the increase in the cat population. When I get home
tonight I'll see about digging it up.
