Nvidia is rumored to be releasing a 9800GTX before the end of the year.
It is supposed to be just an incremental improvement though, and some
say it should be called the 8900 rather than a whole new 'generation'
so to speak, by using the 9800 designation.

because of the free games, but I think the GTX is just a
better solution. Who knows, by the time I can afford this, new cards
might come out.

That's just perfect. You can't get better than that really.
The only thing is the Graphcis card, if you were considering ATI. The
2900XT 1GB card competes fairly well with the GTX. I did not find the
1Gig version of the 2900XT on NewEgg however.
You would also need to check if the Motherboard sup
rands
available based on mid-range price. I eventually want to go SLI, so
I'll eventually get two.

The returns on overclocking memory are small.
The returns on overclocking memory are small.
The risks regarding cooling and system stability are high.
The 800Mhz memory should be just fine.
You will get a much larger performance boost with Processor and Graphics Cards.
What processor and card are you considering?

Is that good enough or should I go for faster memory? Will this memory
overclock at all?

what memory is suggested by the motherboard.
newegg has great reviews on speedy memory, but you need to know what
type your mb supports first.
