There is also a 'station_name' as recommended attribute in a discrete geometries section, see http://cf-pcmdi.llnl.gov/documents/cf-conventions/1.6/aphs02.html/ and even more info on the station (like station_info anf station_elevation) in the Example H.3. Timeseries of station data Gree

Isn't this part of the NetCDF Attribute Convention for Dataset Discovery? I'm not sure we want to wander into that territory - wouldn't it be better to recommend the use of the NACDD? Also, the WMO platform id may seem like a definitive id, but, as I understand it, these numbers are re-used (ex

good point - The auxiliary coordinate variable station_name in these examples is missing a standard_name; and indeed station_description or station_name would fit the bill.  I'd be happy with either or both. For that matter, if one of the stations in the examples ha

[CF-metadata] Request for new standard name

Hi. I would like to request a new standard name. The name is brightness_temperature_anomaly Grace and peace, Jim Biard -- Jim Biard Government Contractor, STG Inc. Remote Sensing and Applications Division (RSAD) National Climatic Data Center 151 Patton Ave. Asheville, NC 28801-5001 jim.bi.

Hi Jim, To clarify your request: 'anomaly' currently means 'difference from climatology' in CF. Is that what you want here? If so, then this would seem to be a logical extension to brightness_temperature. Best wishes, Philip --

Philip, Yes, that's exactly what I am asking for. Based on my review of the mailing list, it appears that such a name is not automatically considered valid. NCDC is producing netCDF files that contain brightness temperature anomalies, so I'd like to have this added as a valid standard name.

Hi Jim, Under current CF procedure, every new std_name must be individually approved. There are proposals to change this, but nothing has changed yet. Fortunately, your proposed std_name is a grammatically consistent combination of existing std_names, so I don't expect any objections. In such

Dear Colleagues, I guess you are talking about five-digit number to identify stations in SYNOP or TEMP. Please note that the number is called "station index number" in WMO. There are several other systems of symbol to identify observation platforms in WMO: - moored and fixed buoys have differe
