Whatever it is thats tying you down, its not ColdFusion unless you've deliberately choked the thing down via CF code.
Your mail server sounds like the culprit. I was testing Argosoft Pro a few weeks back, and I quickly learned to set its max thread use to the full 12 rather than the default of

Wow...you're sure it's CFMX? On Enterprise that would take about 30
seconds. Possible it's your SMTP that's sluggish?
