I would imagine that the hard limit depends on the file system that the DB sits on - 2 GB for FAT, etc... Practically, it's a very bad idea to have an Access DB anywhere near this size. We have a number of databases that are in the several hundred megabyte range - it's not something I like or

That's one of the big problems. If the databases get that large, especially with a large number of concurrent users, you need to be diligent in making sure that you perform manual "compact and repair" operations on the database. There are free alternatives, don't use Access unless you must.
