It sounds more like an issue with the permissions that you have given CF.
Check to make sure that CF is running under a system account that has access
to that network drive.

I do have CFCONTENT pulling from another server, but I don't use IIS
authentication at all. I'd turn on auditing on the remote server and check
the security part of the event log.
