Unlike most developers theses days, I don't believe that usability or UI creativity can be picked up in a book. There needs to be a solid basis of artistic merit coupled with a clean, modern, intuitive way of thinking. Through the good and the bad, real-world corporate experience is what counts.

Here's what's on my bookshelf. Of these, I like Mullet /Sano and Spolsky the best: I would also recommend Don't Make Me Think! by Steve Krug. I would hold off and wait for the second edition due in July before buying it though. The first edition is great, but getting a little dated. -Justin
