To answer your question: If you guys are behind a well-configured firewall, then to
allow your messenger to work,
you'll need to open ports up. This always increases risk.. how great of a risk varies.

This is the reason why I created Chatster. By the way, the people that have downloaded
Chatster, there will be a new version out next week. The new version is 10x better
than the first version. Plus there will be ample documentation on how to set it up and

Probably. I know that ICQ has some security issues. For file transfers and
such it selects a different port for each connection and that creates some
serious firewall
That is why I created Chatster. It uses a CF site to do all the message processing.
Update: Chatster V2 will be out next week for testing. It is a major update with
numerous enhancemnts and loads of documentation.
