I remember hearing way back in 71 that the 402 came about because GM had
accumulated a number of 396 blocks that were bored a little too big to meet
specs. Instead of trashi

Larry,
The 400 big block WAS the 402, typical GM confusion, as they added a .030 overbore to
the 396, and just
called it a 400, or rather used 400 badging on some of the c

Concerning buying a used engine/engine block:
I'd say go with as complete an engine as possible (this all depends on
your finances). If you don't already have all th

First of all check your battery and make sure it's fully charged... Should
be around 12.6 or so... 11.9 volts or less means it needs to be charged.
Here's the 4 tests that

haven't seen that, but I did see an El Camino made from an Impala SS. This
was on display at a local Chevy dealer. It looked good, and may have been
a prototype, I'm not sure. Has anyone else seen this

Hey Jim,,,
It'll put out both,,,to check amps you'd have to basically use the meter
inline with the hot out of the alternator,,,sorta like you'd put in an inline
fuse per say...To check the volts,,as in checking alternator charging just
put the meter leads on the battery terminals with the motor
I
bought one complete for 100 bucks.

Larry,
I've seen the "El Cawagon" shown in Magazine, although when I last
saw it, the color was white. It belonged to an ACES Member, who purchased
it already "converted." Hot Rod got it right with their tongue-in-cheek
assessment, calling it "an El Camino with a roof from a wagon." I

Rich,
We put the July/Aug issue of Chevelle World in the mail just last week, so
they should be arriving in y'alls mailboxes within a week or two (bulk
mail). The reason fo
Besides the 402 there was a 400 BB. I believe it was in 1970 & 72 (ls3). my
book shows the 1971 ls3 with an * noting that it is a 402 that year. I
believe it may have been a 2 barrel motor. it was not available in an SS car.
As long as we are on magazines. Has anyone seen the supposedly 1 of 6 71
sedan delivery the latest issue of hot rod? looks like a converted el camino
to me. Anyone have any knowledge of these really being for real?

Sorry for the mispell. I ment the COVER has a 65 two door wagon not cave. I
just got these two fingers a week ago and am still breaking them in.
The most recent issue I have is May/June Vol. 6 No. 3. The cave has a 65 two
door wagon in front of a jet. It must be the anticipation of recieving the
next issue that makes it seem like it takes forever between them.

408 is close enough.
formula: Displacement = ( Pi x ((Bore / 2) ^ 2) * Stroke *
NumberOfCylinders )
3.14159 * ((4.094 + 0.060) / 2) * 3.760 * 8 = 407.663
If I recall, I usually get mine around the beginning of the second month
covered by the issue. For example, the May/June issue came around the first
part of June, so the next issue, July/August should arrive soon.
