cleaner & brushes & pads is really your best alternative.Even

I recently cleaned the underside
of my Chevelle with Castrol Super Clean and a 3M pad. It took off all the
dirt and grease, the old undercoating, and some of the paint. If you use it,
take precautions, it is highly caustic and will burn unprotected skin. Good
luck

There was a funny looking wire that is also a resistor. I think there is
also a yellow wire hooked to it that goes down to the starter?
