I'm not 100% positive but I think its the lower shaft, not the input
shaft.
André
When referring to the cluster pin on a 4speed is that the input shaft
itself? If not what is it when its listed as a 1 or 7/8 .

It is worth mentioning that GM is the largest
corporation in the world. I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but I think we're
talking about a $250 billion dollar organization. I think what happens is that
small manufacturers and distributors are not even on their radar screen. GM does
not
I'm trying to, if
I can get my driveline vibration debugged.

Have you
checked the wheel bearings? If there is a noise that changes when you steer
from side to side, it's probably a wheel bearing. How do you know that it's not
in the front end?

I have heard of this problem before and it turned out to be a bent drive
shaft. Can you barrow another drive shaft from someone to try in your car?

Craig, I read in CAR CRAFT one time that this can
be caused by the clutch. I'll try and find the article. Have you checked the U
joints? May have a cracked one. I'll be at the cruise, but as a spectator this
year. :o(

Craig,
Did you say that
driveline was balanced? I'd take it down to another shop and have them test

might try new U joints on both ends. I'd be looking hard at them u-joints first

Rich,
I'm keen to see
the article. U-joints are new and we've had them apart three times. In fact,
I've got the car sitting on the alignment hoist of a friends garage right now
with the driveshaft out and on it's way to CCI to make sure it's true
perfectly balanced. They built it, BTW,
Finally got my 67 on the road and the 35 year old p.s box is leaking
from the pitman arm shaft. Iguess its time to rebuild it
Has Anyone done a rebuild on the ps box?? How complicated is it I
understand all the parts come in a rebuild kit ,priced it at checker,
autozone,pepboys 30$
IMO put a duel res master cyl on your car. It will
bolt up to the fire wall but you'll have to re-do the plumbing

I've never done the job, but I've sold the kits. There are actually 2 kits.
One is for rebuilding the entire box and the other is just for the pitman
arm shaft seal.

When I first put the shaft on and found no joy, we complained to the owner of
CCI and he came up and checked it out. Said the pinion flange was shot, ordered
new, installed, no joy. We're pulling the shaft today to do as you

I was at one of the biggest Car shows in our area
on Saturday. Just below 1300 cars. They even had the old Harvard Air Planes do a
couple of fly overs. The 50-50 got up to $5002 dollars take home. The weather
was excellent and people where on there front lawns watching us come in and
leave,
So this posses a question that's been runnin' round my head for a while.
I just installed new U joints because of a vibration that started only at
speed, around 4thousand rpm and up. It too would happen with the clutch in
and seems to be drive line related. As usual for U joints, I jack the car
While this doesn't pertain specifically to a Chevelle it
does involve a Chevy 350...
Does anyone have any experiences with the new motor oils
that are designed for high-mileage engines? Supposedly
they make engine seals expand to reduce leaks, and since
the 350 in my truck leaks from just
Excellent suggestion. I just called my mechanic and he's pulling the shaft
right now and taking to CCI in the morning. The question of the moment is:
What is the CORRECT length of the driveshaft for a 1970 Chevelle SS, 396,
M21??? IF anyone knows, it sure would be a huge help to me. Also, where
Sounds like the old pitch Andy Granatelli used for STP. I'd just toss in a
can of that and see what happens...
Somebody told me once that STP was just 60 weight oil.

No, STP is about 130 weight. I spoke to the tech guy about 4 years ago and
that was his comment.

I took off the intake on my chevelle, because I have pretty much nothing else to check that would be messed up. What Im asking is how would I check them to see if they are bad or not, and how to check if they are solid or not. I noticed if I pushed down on the pushrod, the lifter would press down

half inch or so.
You make
it sound like it was easy for you to depress the Hyd lifter. If it WAS easy to
push down, then the lifters are no good for Hyd lifters. If the bottom of the
lifters are dished inward,
Go to this link and it has instructions on how to properly measure for a
driveshaft. There are three choices so you'll have to look at all three to
decide which set of instructions apply to your setup.

Could they be easy to compress, because there is no oil in them? All the oil is out of them, from when the motor was out, and upside down. I need to run one of those(dont know the name) things where it primes the oil pump and all that. I will check all the lifters to see if they go in or
I've never done it to a chevelle box, but I rebuilt the box in my van
even if its been a while.
If the chevelle boxes are the same kind (lost of small balls) the I
would get the special tool needed, as I used a homemade piece of wood
which is not ideal.
I spent two whole days doing this
