Yes from what I heard, 1965 - 1967 Chevelles and elkys are compatible, but
not 1968 and up, as the elky is 116 long, and chevelle is 112 long.

What is your redline on your chevelle - all years acceptable. I would like
to know cause this '68 chevelle we looked at has a 4000 redline. Thanks.

Good move on getting another frame, I am going through this with my 69, it's a nightmare car. Nothing is lining up the way it should b/c the frame is bent worse than I thought it was. Also be prepared for the body structure to be screwed up in some places when you go to put it back together.

4000? I've never seen a redline that low. I shif the 454 in my 70 at 5500, although I know it can handle 6500, but there is no sense taking it that high b/c it's out of it's powerband at that rate. I used to shift the 307 in my 86 Cutlass at 5000, and now that I put the 350 SBC in it, I shift it
I tried this and unfortunately I still don't have enough room to get it out
due to the length of the bolts. I will take another look at it tonight
though...
thanks for the suggestion

Steve, While I can give you no real advice on starting a new club I do want
to encourage you to proceed. I live in Indiana about 40 miles west of
Dayton, OH. and would welcome a club closer to home. Please let me know if I
can help.
PS. The Paddock resto parts supplier is only about 20 miles
More than likly, it has something like a Sun Tach in
it with an adjustable red line thats set at 4000, have
never seen a factory tach with a red line that low!

there are tons of things that can cause vibrations. Wheels out of balance,
the rear could be shot, driveshaft, cracked flexplate, torque converter, the
whole tranny, front suspension problems, the list goes on and on.

Unfortunately, I know... I've checked wheels, rebuilt the entire rear end
assembly, bought a new driveshaft, pinion flange and U joints. The engine
spins out just fine so the balancer, flywheel, and other stuff is fine.
Entire front suspension is new, BTW. So, I'm back to driveshaft...

not completely the case. yes the el camino frame will work but you need to cut 4 inches out of the back section. also the station wagon is the same length. the convertible frame is the same length as the hardtop. the nice thing about either the el camino, station wagon or convertible is that
What the 68 come with a diesel ? 4200 redline is way low. is it the factory tach or was it a sun tach with the shift indicator stuck on 4200 ?

the
nice thing about either the el camino, station wagon or convertible is that the
frame is boxed.
A buddy of mine recently purchased a 66 Chevelle that has some rather
interesting things about it. First off, although it has a 396 engnie right
now, it has all of the badging for a 427. It even has a cowl plenum air
cleaner. Additionally, the license plate frame says Dana Chevrolet.
Does
Eric that air cleaner is worth big bucks. My buddy just paid 2500 bucks for one.
Larry (z)
Larry,
After doing that does it still hit the column ??
did you loosen the balljoint ?
Kind Regards

Although I have a 66 Chevelle, I dont know if it is the same for the 66 Chevelle. But I know in 1967 the biggest motor you could get from the factory was a 396 but you could order a dealer special 427. My Dad said there was a few of them at his high school. These ones are worth the big

ok, heres the story. The motor came out of a
1966 Chevelle SS, as far as I know. it is supposely the 375 hp
version. We just visited him today (I said we were going to yesterday, but
he had plans) and we looked at the car, he put it up on the lift, and it had
paint chips all under it. I
nope, it used to be a 307. :-)

64 frames are stand alone, 65 66 are the same and 67 are stand alone from
a purity point.
But all share the same measurements. They can all be made to interchange.
Read on.
