I've just installed my HEI and I
dont know if this will help but have the guy who is having trouble with
the HEI check that the plug in connection is not reversed. I bought a new
billet HEI 6 months ago made in Mexico and Jose' stuffed the small lead wires (1

Mike,
If you're talking about the supports that attach
vertically to the radiator support and the grill attaches to, and if its the
same as a 72 Chevelle, I have a set available. Contact me off list at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Mike,
True-Connections has a lot of used
parts. Give them a call. 1-800-600-4144. Hope this helps.

Guys, One of my customers needs help locating a couple of
pieces for his 72 GMC Sprint. It seems his Son had a little mishap and did right
much damage to the front end. What he has been unable to find is the center
brace that the hood latch attaches on top of. And the LS valance with the

I "believe" you have to have screw in studs. The plates mount under the head
of the stud to keep them in place.

I'm contemplating installing these in my 327, and the
Summit page says machining is required.. Why?

p.s. the idea of pulling the valve cover is also an excellent
way to find out if you are really at TDC or 180 degrees out when the distributor is firing on #1. Not too
difficult to do and much better than guessing.

Don't they simply slip over the rocker arm studs?
Someone pls tell
Sounds like
you assumed you were on the compression stroke rather than the exhaust stroke.
A perfect way to end up 180 degrees out.
FYI you
can also try rotating the wires on the distributor cap 180 degrees. It’s a
faster and easier way to find out if that is the problem than pulling th

I’ve been doing a lot of
distributor swapping the past few weeks. If you want an absolutely
fool-proof method of getting it right, pull off the driver’s side valve
cover off and as you spin the engine over, watch for the #1 intake valve to
close, and then keep rotating to line up the TDC m
Doh! Again! "Wher's me brrain" should have thought about something
so obvius as to pull the sparkblugs before turning the engine by hand.
I'll put the cone on my head! (guess I'm tired)
I'll start all over tomorrow & come back to you then!

It's better to put a cork in the hole. It will pop out on the compression
stroke (and you won't lose any body parts).

Pelle, "Really?" With the plugs out the rotation
should be a snap. I am sorry, for not being clear
enough.
so, find TDC is absoluteli the first step. Then we can
talk about the distributor/wire orentation. Agree? We,
or me even probably has my wire set still tied
together and can share the details
yeah, "cover, rather than in" lol.mike

When I pulled the old distributor the engine was
right on TDC (just happened to be so)
and the rotor was in fact 180 degrees opposite
the installation recommendation.
But I didn't write down the location of the spark
plug wires (doh!)
But if I rotate the rotor 180 degrees I have

Ha ha!
Actually I used a plastic strip to feel whether the TDC mark on the
damper seemed ok first ;-)
I have no signs of slipping of the damper...

Pelle,
Not sure where you got the HEI, but when I rebuilt the engine in my truck I had the exact same problem.. it would spark, and the engine would hit, but never really run. I had to replace the entire distrbutor, but it may just be the module. Most auto part stores will test the module (here in

You are getting close, I bet.

Sounds like you have the distributor 180 degrees
off (or a couple of teeth off). Try to have someone crank the engine while you
twist the distributor and see if it cranks easier (or starts- indicates that it
is a tooth or several off). Or just pull the distributor up enough so the gear
