Thank you for your input :o)
Haven't been able to locate any center-caps yet...
Do you know where to get a set nice looking ones?
I've been looking at the Baer brakes, we'll see? :-/

I took an old distributor pulled the gear off and every ting off of the top
and use that for my primer that way it takes care of the oil passage. I had the
same issue with just a shaft.

I assumed that the SS cars had all of the same trim as the Malibu. I guess
not. Seems like lots of people are looking for those trim pieces. They are
not being reproduced.
I'm ok with the idea that it's a Malibu and not an SS. I'll feel less guilty
about painting it "aubergine". The car was origin

I
forgot to ask what was being used to prime the engine! I made my own
priming tool by cutting the top off of an old distributor because like Tom
mentioned, the distributor housing has the oil passage to feed the
lifters.

If you are useing just a shaft the oil won't flow under
pressure. The distributor housing has an oil passage which the oil flows through
to make the hole connection. Tom B. ---Grand Rapids, Mi.

Hi Rick,
My guess is I spun it about a minute total in two
or three shorter spins. I just spun it again for a full minute and still
see no oil at the rockers. Yup, the sending
unit hole is plugged.
Thanks,

I'd read somewhere fairly recently that having equal length tubes is not
as much of a benefit as originally touted...
It's a couple of HP...

Dennis how long have you been spinning it? When I preoiled my crate motor, it seemed to take quite a bit longer than I expected to get the oil up. Do you have the oil pressure sending unit hole (near distributor) closed off?

hundred RPM.

The
plug you're referring to should be the one you want for the oil pressure
sender. Try a metric hex, maybe it will fit better.
You could also try heating it with a propane torch, sometimes the plugs have
lock tite on the threads.

Yes
you should see oil coming out of the little hole at the pushrod seat on the
rocker arm. If you don't have the rockers in place and adjusted, the oil
is probably leaking out where the pushrod sits in the lifter. Also
make sure you're spinning the oil pump in the right direction - small
Hopefully I'll find out in April, possibly May. I doubt I'll get to work
with Chris again since he's in Iowa and I'm trying to get south of I-10.

Would I be correct in assuming the oil pressure
sender for my new crate 350 goes in the hole in the block near the
distributor?
The plug in that hole is very tight. My .187"
hex wrench fits loosely and seems in danger of either spinning or
breaking. A .195" hex wrench will not fit. Any
