Hello All,
I was replacing my alternator with a new one on my 71 SS 402, and got everything hooked up and when I attempted to insert the long bolt that threads into the engine block, the bolt was too large for the new alternator hole. So i figured the the parts store gave me the wrong alternator,
Hello, That Is a Option But First And Formost Make Sure You Have The Right Altenator, You Won't Be The First Nor The Last To Get The Wrong Part. Even If The Book Show"s The Same Number The Printed
Thanks for input on the exhaust,I just don't want something that sounds
like a Mustang. I am looking at the flowmaster american thunder setup or the
jeggs exhaust,not sure yet,thanks again
Thanks Kevin. I did try other supply houses and all of the alternators are identical but the hole is too small. My car is numbers matching so it is definately a 402.

Hi Gang, am trying to locate an alternator mounting
bracket to be mounted on the passenger side cylinder head using a short
water pump. Nobody seems to make such a monster, any thoughts and tips would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If I had a matching numbers car, I would have the original alternator
rebuilt.

3/8" bolt should be standard on your car. If it is larger someone possibly stripped the whole and went one larger. My $.02- Original Message From: tabius barrett <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>To: chevelle-list@chevelles.netSent: Tuesday, November 7, 2006 8:20:04 PMSubject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Altern

Not the best looking in my opinion but
Alan Grove components makes brackets for a short pump big block that mounts the
alternator on the passenger side. Check http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/B.B.Short_Pump.htm
One mounts the alternator pretty high and may not fit under the hood and

I’d almost bet it would put the
alternator fan pulley too far out from the block to align with the water pump
pulley. The two ‘standoffs’ as Moroso calls them that space the
alternator away from the head and block are 5” and 3” respectively.

Tim- It would have come stock on the driver's
side. Why are you trying to relocate it?

Devin, clearance has been a mother foxtrot, due to
valve covers and placement, ideally if it fell on the passenger side my worries
would be answered, still sortin the puzzle out Thanks for the input
