PAT vs NAT

2001-02-07 Thread Richie, Nathan
Can someone tell me any benefits to using NAT instead of PAT? I know with PAT, you can translate up to 64,000 addresses, but with NAT it is one to one. Thanks, Nathan Richie _ FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html R

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/iaabu/pix/pix_v52/config/adv anced.htm#xtocid62291 This doc says PIX does not support BOOTP request. You could however look at setting the PIX up as a DCHP server. It will however only support 32 clients. Hope this helps. -Original Message--

If you can sho the configs (minus security information) it might be easier to help you figure out the problem. I am thinking it could be an access-list misconfiguration, or a conduit permit misconfiguration, but without the configs to look at, it is hard to advise. -Original Message- Fro

RE: Need some help with ping on PIX [7:4859]

It looks like you are translating the workstation to the same IP address of the outside interface of the PIX. Try using a different IP address for your static NAT. Also, you can run "debug icmp trace" on the PIX and "debug IP icmp" on the router to see what is happening. Hope this helps -

I beg to differ. I do not believe this can be done. When the PIX translates (either dynamically or statically), it takes a private IP address (inside interface) and translates it to a Public IP address (outside). Then the outside interface will process ALL packets for that Public IP address and
