Any difference between secondary address and subinterface for a port?

Secondary addressing and subinterfacing serve different purposes. In my less than humble opinion, the major applications for secondary addresses are workarounds for problems caused by the dinosaur of classful addressing. These are discussed in detail in Chapter 5 of my _Designing Addressing Ar

I do not think Cisco would discontinue the use of secondary IP addresses. There are so many different uses for them and it seems (at least in my experience) that every network hack out there always uses them --- not that i necessarily always like them--- but if you customers use it and need it the
