I also just checked a few 5500s and found the passwords are NOT case
sensitive, Other switches no idea

According to the book written by Karen Webb on page 65 it states
that passwords on Cisco Swtiches using the Cisco IOS CLI AREN'T case
sensitive, while passwords on the Cisco Switches using the set/clear CLI

I just tested this on a 5505 and the passwords were *not* case
sensitive. They are case sensitive on our 2924XL switches, though.
Perhaps the software level has something to do with it. On the 5505
we're running 4.5.
