I understand that the DR sends the link state update to all adjacent OSPF
routers. Essentially flooding the network.
The router that detected the change to the link state directly sends the LSU
to the DR and BDR.

is a very simplistic view of the way Designated and Backup
Designated Routers operate within OSPF architectures.
