Well the hardware matters if you want to receive a full Internet routing
table. The mem requirement there is 128 megs minimum, and the 1605 won't
support that.

I got the BGP working on 1600s.
They work fine (in lab environment of course.)

A quick search verifies you are correct. In the bad old days the 1600
didn't even support OSPF but enough people screamed...
