You're probably right. We tried dialing in to it many, many times and it would answer but it would not negotiate with the modem on our end; we would just get silence. It's interesting that dialing in with a modem would not cause it to reset, but dialing in on a phone and then sending random tone

I'll see what I can find out. I've never heard of anyone doing this before, and neither had the other engineer who was here with me. We tried to dial in at least 10 times, and we did wait each time for negotiation to start but it never did. The modem would "answer" because the ringing stopped,
