The file is slightly over 3 Megs in size
for the Sup I engine with 5.5(11)
Sup III with 5.5.(10) is slightly under 5 Megs
If you did a format bootflash and then tftp the new image on the flash you
should not have to use set boot system flash at all.

About the versions, I was reading in the following URL that 5.5(9) is the

But, in the 5.5(11) release notes, it says 5.5(7) is recommended:

On one of my 5500s, the IOS loaded was bad from Cisco. When I called them
about it, it was pulled from the site by the next morning. But, the damage
had been done. I had a sup3 without any flash cards. I did not have enough
flash to load the new and keep the old image.
