Which is more important Certification or Career? Nortel and Lucent make good
boxes - especially the Ascend ATM switches that Lucent bought. You have an
opportunity to work on a great network buildout. Do it. Your primary skills
may be with those vendor's equipment.

Although all of us on this list may be a bit prejudiced for all things
Cisco, you have to admit there are other things out there.
Nortel is a big player. Learning to use their equipment could probably
provide you just as rewarding
If you really want the CCIE for its own sake, you'll learn a lot of
underlying technology--that's bloody useful--but you won't learn the
Cisco-specific stuff for the CCIE (R&S or WAN). Cisco's exams are quite
focused on how Cisco does things.
