What you might wanna do is try to login at different speed settings. I've
had the same problem once and it took me a long time to find out that
somebody else had changed the speed setting to 115k (for a file transfer via
console) and never changed it back.

If you cable works with the other switches, you can try to change the flow
control to NONE instead of HARDWARE. Most of the Cisco devices I have worked
with will accept HARDWARE flow control, but some few will not.
If that does not work, I would suggest that you connect the new switch with
one
type of switch? 5500 use straight thru cable; however,
and 6000 use that one and roll over, but you must push
the botton to use either straight or roll over.
