Is there an industry certification for VOIP? If you never worked with this
technology, how do people
show they have adequate knowledge if they don't get practical experience??

Cisco has the CVOICE exam/cert covering Voice over Frame relay/ATM/IP...
also they have a IP Telephony exam/cert. CIPT

As far as I know most of the specialization programs including the CVOICE
track of Cisco are over , do check it up at the cisco web site , on training
and certifications.

I don't know if taking the exam gets you a certification, but they still
offer both of these exams... it's for "Partners"... so I guess if you
want to be a firm that's a Cisco partner that offers VoIP or IP Telephony
soultions, you have to have someone that's taken one of both of these
exams..
