It is true that a PCR test can be run on peripheral blood, but I
believe that bone marrow analysis is generally considered to be more
accurate, and there is additional information that can be gleaned from
BM. From my reading, after you have been on Gleevec for a year or so
and have good numbers,

Thank you for doing that, Rob. I, for one, know
that I contacted Novartis when my heart failure
developed, and they in turn contacted my
oncologist.

Hi Laura: Seeing where you live, I just had to write. I was born in
Mayfield, Ky. and raised in a small place between Mayfield and Paducah
called Boaz. I went to school all twelve years at Symsonia & graduated
in '71. My mom worked at Lourde's for a while (she was a nurse). I

Dear Larry,
I am in Western Kentucky, Paducah to be exact and have a wonderful Onc. If you read my post to Terry, my doctor told me once I made up my mind not to have a BMT that BMB's were not neccasary that he could get all the info. he needed from peripheal blood. BUT he did do one in the b
I wanted to let all of you know that I had a conference call with Novartis today regarding the newly developed situation of heart problems developing in some patients with Gleevec.Novartis indicated they are currently going through their data and will release additional information when they have i

Yeah it is very sad news indeed. When I hear things like this it just makes me even more thankful, and realize their our others out there in far worse condition than myself. I consider myself a spiritual person, but not really reglious, but whatever he believed in I hope he is in a better place and
I have to agree with you Cheryl-Anne, I like you had good health before being Dxed with CML. In fact I rarely went to the doctor before getting strange nose bleeds, and then if my primary care doctor did not make it a habit of doing blood work on patients that she never sees, I would most likely no
This is so sad. It just breaks my heart reading this news. Why kids? They should never have to deal with this darn stuff. They should be out having fun, being kids and teenagers. I keep trying to believe things happen for a reason, but its tough on this one Karyn, Tony's mom

Hello All,
Given that CML is a disease that has a higher rate of
incidence among the middle age population, the information on the possibility of
IM to cause CHF is pretty relevant. If we look at the American population
for instance we see that the incidence of obesity continues to rise. W
I agree my doctors have told me to totally stay away from Aspirin, I am 500mg/ 7.5 of Loritab 3 times a day for my pain and it REALLY helps. They had me on codeine at first but that just made me sick and sleep allot. I would prefer Vicodin ES because I took one from my Dad who gets them for back pa
Hi Laura and Jo Ann,
I would not freak out to much about this news about Gleevec( like I did yesterday..lol), I mean you saw how fast they pulled that painkiller a few months ago cause of problems, so if it was really bad they would be pulling Gleevec faster than the oil companies raise gas prices.
Hi Sandy,
Tell Randy I am right there with him in hating those BMB's. They dope me up pretty good for them, but it is when they draw out the marrow is when it hurts. They did a blood test on my sister for a possible match too, so that is not unusal. I had major swelling around the eyes at first, I
Thank you for the very comprehensive information.

My ONC is a Novartis spokesman and when I called him yesterday it was
funny he had not heard of the press releases that hit all the national
news on Sunday and Monday morning. He called Novartis immediately and
they told him it was a very small study and the percentage of heart
damage is 0.1% of

Dear All,
Some of you may remember Allen Lefebvre who used to post on this list

Hi Trey,
I would be very happy to give you the article by Dr. Force. And
especially, the supplementary table which cites the patient
characteristics. All the patients had previous cardiac disease before
taking Gleevec, 3 had had coronary artery disease, 4 had diabetes and 7
had hypertension.
