A heat gun might soften the adhesive to where it might make removal easier.

Fridgemate. You can get them at any RV supplier. Lasts about 2 months
on a D cell battery.
We have one for our icebox and fifth wheel.

I installed a small computer fan wired to the fridge compressor board so that
it runs any time the fridge is cooling. Draws about 1/10 amp or less really
helps keep the temp in the fridge more consistent and reduces frost on the

Bill,
A couple of suggestions made on another sailing list:
Use 600 wet sandpaper with a sponge block to carefully remove old lettering.
Then 800 wet sandpaper & compound with a polisher to restore the finish.

I've been aground a number of times but they are all pretty mundane

David,
Don't beat yourself up. The boat would have been damaged resting on the
rocks. Maybe not the same damage it suffered, but it would have been
damaged. If it were found with no one aboard, I believe it would have been
deemed abandoned and subject to salvage rights.

I appreciate all the words of encouragement and stories of other people’s
mishaps. I have started thinking about alternative scenarios. One big
question is what we would have done if SeaTow had not been able to get the boat
off the reef or if we had refused the help. I might have been able to
I have Charleston Race Week stickers on my bow (OK, I have been busy with other

The boat has Awl-Grip on its hull which I would prefer to preserve.
Aside from plastic scrapers, soap and water, and elbow grease, does anyone have
a magic remedy to remove this.
