I've been using Gorilla tape the last two years and it holds up very well.
Since only 2in wide, I have to build it up like roofing layers, but it sticks
to itself, and everything else, very well. Doesn't wear away like duct tape
and pulls off fairly cleanly.Mine doesn't look as neat as Dennis

Agreed as to sealing the slot, but the nice thing is on ours that the spar
manufacturer thoughtfully filled the slot below the boom vang attachment, so it
makes for a nice smooth penetration through the deck.

I am using white shrinkwrap tape. It has one problem, it gets brittle and can
crack or pull loose. I end up adding some in the middle of each season to keep
good coverage. Not difficult, as I bought a roll which may last me forever.
