An ad popped up on FB for a "boaters" first aid kit for a ridiculous price of $200+. The wee orange Pelican box was probably half the cost, but I digress. Concerning inland and coastal sailing, it made me wonder what should be in a marine FAK? From my limited experience, I'd say the items that

I'd like to buy an offshore first aid kit. The large ones, even on sale at Defender, are $450. There are lots of cheaper kits from Zee Medical, ULine, Orion and even Bass Pro Shops. Unless the Admiral is onboard, there will probably be no one with medical training beyond basic first aid.

Joel, Most sporting goods stores and camping supply outfits has some good robust kits for a fraction of the “marine” prices. How detailed a set will depend on you and the requirements. I have a pretty good set on board which I got for under $100, but I don’t go more than a few miles offshore

Joel, I've also heard quite a few recommendations for the whole offshore crew to have advanced medical training. No matter how good the first aid bag is and how good your wife is, what if she is the one injured? AEDs are also becoming a regular addition to offshore kits. I recommend it. You

Josh, Advanced training would be worthwhile, but i'd probably pass out during the course! In the Safety at Sea seminar they made clear that if you have a heart attack and no AED you are dead. No one can do CPR long enough for a boat or chopper to get to you. Sobering stuff! During the Bermuda
