Our engine stuttered and quit a while back, of course on a windless day
right in the major ferry lane...
I finally tracked it down to a loose bleed screw on the Racor. It sounds
like your problem may be either air in the line, or gunk in the tank
fouling the pickup tube. I have an outboard primer b
Tom,
It sounds to me like you have some "sludge” in the lines that is slowing the
fuel flow. Replace the filters (Racor and the one on the engine), flush the
lines as best you can, get all the air our of the system and see how that goes.
It may be time for a fuel tank cleaning or fuel polishing

Didn’t I send a vacuum gauge to someone on here?
I have both vacuum and fuel pressure gauges and both are hugely useful in
finding problems

This is where a vacuum gauge would be helpful.

We are off on a two week cruise. Second day running the engine starts to
falter, then stall. I check the Racor, no water. I did replace the fuel
pump last year after we ran out of fuel w the fuel tank
The same thing happened to Trillium many years ago. Ended up paying a yard
to clean out the tank, which solved the problem. Then a few years later
replaced the tank completely when we rebuilt the engine. When removing
the tank I put my finger through the bottom! At that point the tank was 40
years
I am putting my money on the pickup in the tank. Pull it and clean it. If
tank cruddy need be cleaned to avoid in future.

Tom, could be crud in the tank blocking the pick up line to the filter.
Should be rubber line from tank to filter.
Disconnect line at filter and blow into it. Yumm

My previous boat hadan A4 engine. There was a filter at the end of the
pickup tube that was clogged, and it caused the engine to stall because the
pump was starved for fuel. You may not have a filter there, but you might
have sludge in the bottom of your tank causing the pickup tube to clog. I
