It looks great for inland waters. However for out in the ocean I feel that you still need flares for the altitude that they provide. You cant get the light 500 feet in the air. or shoot it at the bridge of an approaching freighter. That being said I can still see it usefulness. Doug Mountjoy svPeg

Hi, Is anyone familiar with the Sirius Signal SOS Distress light? The claim is that it complies with USCG requirements replacing flares, and that it does not expire. I just read about it from an Active Captain post which includes a Defender link for those interested:
