The PO of my boat was indiscriminate about the application of Yanmar Grey to the engine, wiring, belts, hoses, etc. When I get around to it I'll get the engine warm and use a degreaser (maybe just 409) then rinse it off. The warm engine will dry quickly and be ready for more indiscriminate spray

No barrier is "normal" and acceptable. Certain composites and gelcoats are more susceptible to blisters than others. A lot of people/builders simply monitor for signs of blisters and then repair them with barrier coat. Our series of 37+ and 34+ where supposed to be built with one of the less sus
