Hi Cobirders,
I checked the San Luis Lakes in Alamosa County yesterday afternoon, which we
will visit as part of the CFO Convention, and there were several interesting
birds including:
Semipalmated Plovers - 4
American Avocets - 12
Marbled Godwits - 20
Long-billed Dowitchers - 25

Hi COBirders,
Today not many birds seemed to have arrived overnight, and it was slow
initially. As the morning went on, we actually did pretty well, with
great diversity. It was pretty dead by noon. Missing today were any
thrushes, flycatchers, or vireos, and only a few warblers were
I checked out one of my favorite areas late this morning and following
is a list of most of the species I saw or heard (most from the bench
by the lake):
Black-crowned Night Heron (one in middle of cattails in middle of lake)
Avocet
Virginia Rail (quite vocal)
Canada Goose
Mallard (babies)
This evening Michelle and I re found the Hooded Warbler in the
interior of the luscious north west side. Other species observed were
Dusky Flycatcher, Lark Sparrow,Yellow Warbler,Orange-crowned Warbler,
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Lesser Goldfinch.
On the drive to Dixon I saw one Broad-winged Hawk
a male bullock's oriole showed up in my yard at about 8 am this morning, and
has been visiting periodically since. he went straight for the hummingbird
feeder. they've nested here in past years.
Pine siskins and Cassin's finches remain abundant, with estimates of 35 and 12
birds,
