I have photos of two vireos, one from a few days ago taken in Boulder, the
other from May, 2008 taken at Sale Lake also in Boulder. I would appreciate
any observations and opinions as to ID of these birds. Some characteristics
seem to fit Plumbeous, others make me wonder if one or both could be

This morning, Jeannie Mitchell found a Sora at the drainage pond (now looks
like soup) at the Safeway strip mall in Falcon; I just re-found it; it is
mainly in the open and doing short excursions into the cattails in the
north-east part. I had excellent views of this bird.

On Ted's urging, I headed out to Prince Lake #2 this afternoon to see
what shorebirds were around. Right next to the car on the eastern
shore of the lake was one easy to observe Pectoral Sandpiper! The
moment I returned home, Nathan Pieplow called to let me know
I was near Stearns Lake today, and I saw two birds that I really could not
definitively identify. They both seem to be in the process of molting. I think
they're Bobolinks, but it's hard for me to tell.

Today, Monday, Sept. 7th, we wrapped up the ABA's IFO workshop on Frontiers in
Field Ornithology: Nocturnal Migration in the West. Despite south winds at
sunset on Sunday, it was calm with just a few high clouds when we assembled at

Despite south winds at sunset on Sunday, it was calm with just a few high
clouds when we assembled at the dam at Prewitt Reservoir, Washington
This morning ten of us left for NE Colorado (Joe Roller, Allison Hilf, Steve
Larson, Randy Lentz, Cole Wild, Rick Connie Steinkamp, Kathy Mihm Dunning
and husband Jeff, and myself). Land and shorebirds are still a little on
the slow side, but have definitely improved from the last few weeks.

Including recaps, we are only in the mid-teens most days.
