The Long-tailed Duck reported originally by Bill Schmoker was still present
today as of 3:00pm. I spent more time today studying this bird and found out
that I can't tell what age or sex it is. I do know that it isn't an adult
male, but other than that, due to lack of illustrations in the Sibl

I stopped by Boulder Reservoir this evening and basically struck out
(one FOS American Tree Sparrow, that's it). As a consolation, I
decided to swing by Dodd Reservoir on the way home and had better
luck. I arrived just after 4 PM and the reservoir was packed with
A White-throated Sparrow was seen at the Audubon Society of Greater
Denver's Nature Center today. It was feeding in the company of Juncos
(Pink-sided and Slate-colored), House Finch, Black-capped Chickadees,
White-breasted
Nuthatch, an American Tree Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrows and a Sp

see the White-winged Crossbills this afternoon around 3 p.m. right where Dave
said they'd be. Beautiful!

I spent the day driving the "mountain lakes loop" (numbers of species as
well as individuals is dropping fast over the last month). Here are the ice
conditions and some highlights for each lake:
PARK COUNTY:
Eleven Mile Reservoir (50% frozen):
Barrow's Goldeneye - 1m
Common Loon -
Just a quick note to say that I just saw at least one pair (one yellow and one
pink) of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS in Grandview Cemetery, Fort Collins, Larimer,
west end of Mountain Avenue. They were with a group of about a dozen Red
Crossbills, feeding in Colorado Blue Spruce in Section E. They
The female White-winged Scoter found yesterday by Ted Floyd was still present
this morning at around 11:30. It was still associating with the Common
Goldeneyes and Common Mergansers on the Northwest side of the lake, but the
best viewing may be from the south shore because of lighting concerns.
Second hand report ... "Beebe Draw Sandhill Cranes - Weld. To anyone
interested yesterday and today, 11-19 & 11-20, There were 80+ cranes
south of Latham Res. between rds. 42 - 44, and rds. 45 - 47. They were
too far away for good photos. Last year there were 8 that stayed into
December at that loc
Today at Big Johnson Reservoir I saw what I believe to be an adult Mew Gull.
There were also 3 Common Loons.

Arriving at Marston Lake Sat 11/21, we realized that the spotting
scope had vibrated a lens loose inside on the ride down, and had
become useless. So with binocs only, we still had good luck with:
