Hello, Birders.
Many thanks to Nick Komar for his interesting posting about a tricky vireo in
Fort Collins, Larimer County, apparently on May 2nd, 2010. (Nick and all:
Please always include dates. See below on why this is as important as, well,
posting the name of the species observed.)
Hello,
I'll be renting a house in Boulder for 5 weeks beginning May 24, and I
was hoping to get some local help with owls and Dusky Grouse. I've
birded the state several times, and these are my most sought after
nemesis birds. I've got Owls of Boulder County, but I'd like a

completed lining. Nest 1 is at the site used last year for
I refound the Piping Plover at 7 a.m. today at Clover Basin Reservoir. Like
yesterday, it spends much of its time on the west end of the reservoir near the
big rusty barrel and cement blocks. I will post distant but identifiable photos
later. I refound the Piping Plover for another birder just
Dear Cobirders,

Iffy weather and stiff winds made Thursday a great day for raptors and swifts
at Dinosaur Ridge Thursday.
Early on a presumed local Peregrine streaked across the valley toward the

migrating Peregrine streamed north in

Chuck,
Interestingly, 3 northbound kestrels went past my office window in
Lakewood in the span of about a minute around 3:30 yesterday and I thought
there might be a big push along the ridge.

I stayed home from work today (RA is a drag!) and have been sitting at
my kitchen window watching a dozen or more Black-headed and at least
half that many Rose-breasted Grosbeaks...all at once! A few Evening
Grosbeaks come in...as well as 4-5 Bullock's Orioles. These all are

And down along Boulder Creek below the stadium after lunch were at least 5
hermit thrushes, a female Wilson's warbler, several yellow-rumps (all that I
saw were myrtle), a wood-pewee, and a whit-ting empid ... plus the usual house
finches, black-capped chickadees, robins, crows, etc.

Following is a link to a few photos of plovers I took this morning at Clover
Basin Reservoir. The first few are of Piping Plover and Black-bellied Plover.
The last few are of a plover that has me puzzled. Thoughts on the ID of this
bird would be appreciated.

Today I had a Red-Breasted Grosbeak in my feeder around noon.
Also in the yard this week, I am seeing several Yellow-rumped Warblers, a
Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and two Brown Thrashers. In the a.m.'s , a Thrasher has
actually been in the feeder winning out over the Grackles. A Yellow-headed

I was shocked to see a Western Tanager flash through my yard around
4:00 PM today. It briefly landed on the bird bath, but something
spooked it and I didn't see it again. Certainly a new yard bird for me!
