Hi folks,
I apparently was a bit busy in April and didn't get my Book Giveaway posted.
Head on over to my blog at www.birdsothemorning.com and check out the book
giveaway posts - there are two!
Read the posts, answer the questions at the blog and give yourself a good
chance to win a cool
Flock of Evening Grosbeaks in yard (front back) this a.m.
Haven't seen them for past couple years.
Casual migrants just moving through? Glad to see them.

I had a Black-throated Gray Warbler feeding in ponderosa pines in my yard this
morning, a first for my neighborhood list. It think it left the area while I
was trying unsuccessfully to photograph it. The Cassin's Finch count here is up
to six today, the most I've had in recent days. At least
Along with about 25,000 graduates, friends and family (and even a few faculty-I
think I saw Charlie Case there), I saw my first Violet-green Swallows overhead
at the CU Boulder Spring Commencement this morning at Folsom Field. If memory
serves me correctly last year I had my FOS Yellow
A Painted Redstart (Kansas's 3rd State Record) was found yesterday and is still
present this morning in Morton County, Kansas. This is in the southwest corner
of the state, and the bird is only about 10 miles from Baca County, Colorado.
The bird is along the south side of the Cimarron River
COBirders,
WARBLERS:
Having an entire wall of windows that you can watch out of while working has
its benefits sometimes. While on a telecon this morning, I have had surprising
amounts of activity near the intersection of Valmont and Foothills Parkway
(more specifically Center Green Dr.).
Had a Broad-winged Hawk at Dixon Reservoir in Fort Collins this morning, plus a
few orange-crowned and yellow-rumped warblers, and a Hermit Thrush. FOY
Violet-green Swallows at my house near Horsetooth Mtn this morning too.
Surprisingly, still no yellow warblers, orioles, etc.
Good birding,
Cobirders,
At about 11:00am Friday I saw the Tricolored Heron at the previously described
location.
It was my first in Colorado since 1991. Thanks to all who posted the excellent
directions and updates.

Had a LOSH just E of the parking lot at Walden Ponds today. Also saw an
American Bittern trying to land at 1 of the Sawhill Ponds, but was dissuaded by
numerous Blackbirds. It flew off to the N where 1 of the Walden Ponds seemed
to successfully swallow it up as I saw it descend. The Boulder
Folks- I got a call from Mike Freiberg who has been running a few grassland
transects for RMBO in S. Colorado. Of extra interest were 2 Broad-winged
Hawks, a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and a Great Crested flycatcher on private
property along HWY 239 about 1mi east of Trinidad.
Enjoy- Bill Schmoker,
Yesterday we started early at Jack's Canyon on the north end of the
Uncompahgre Plateau. One Grace's, a few Virginia's, and a few
Orange-crowned Warblers were heard singing there. Dusky Flycatchers were
back and vocalizing.
At the nice cottonwood gallery near Gateway were found a
To all that might be chasing the Painted Redstart roughly 2 miles south of HWY
27 and 51 intersection at the Cimarron River bridge...the bird was still
present at 415 pm RMT! Cheers!

Hello, Birders.
Andrew and I crossed the tracks, so to speak, this morning and poked around
various Weld County spots. Here's what we came up with:
Pawnee National Grassland at dawn. Beautiful. First we saw 3 BURROWING OWLS
west of CR-61 at 40.655346 N, 104.487534 W. Next up was a dandy

attracted to the catkins. Interestingly this male was
Started to feel like spring migration today. Six warbler species, including

Just in time for a weekend with lots of visitors expected!
Michael Kiessig, Rob Raker, and myself spent the morning at Red Rocks
and Bear Creek Lake Park (BCLP). Highlights @Red Rocks Trading Post
