I think this current cool front is enough to kick down an early sandhill
crane flight...so we should look and listen high up today and tomorrow.

I am currently seeing a White-throated Sparrow, a tan-striped adult, in my yard
in Pueblo West. I'm getting very good looks at it from 12-15 feet away through
a window, and was able for a short time to compare it to an immature
Good morning,

I hope this doesn't appear to be a broke record but it has become a mission
to measure the staying power of this beautiful bird. When I started my walk
through the bird sanctuary this morning it was cold, about 46, and very
overcast. There wasn't much activity. However I noticed a small duck in
The Northern Parula was (still) at Dixon Reservoir this morning
(assuming it's the same one!). I saw it in the same general location,
in the brush and low in the trees just north of the dam, at around
8:30. I had not seen it earlier this week, but each of the now three
times I've seen it was
There were three Caspian Terns on one of the sandbars at Baseline Reservoir
about 10:30 this morning. A couple from Wisconsin pointed them out, but had
they had to leave before I got their names.
It seems a little odd that there are still Am. White Pelicans there and Juncos
have arrived in my
The three Caspian Terns were still at Baseline Res. as of 3:10 pm.

Today, 9/29, a Bobolink was flying low with 6 Mountain Bluebirds, on dry
grassland on lower Cat Creek in Conejos County - quite a surprise. At about
9,500 el., there was a Pine Grosbeak in Rio Grande County. Several Gray Jays at

Cobirders,
I just wanted to apologize for omitting my signature in the earlier post(s?)
about the Caspian Terns. I was having problems posting from my iPhone. By
the time I realized what had happened, I had already sent two posts and
thought I ought to wait until I got home to make another
Hello everyone,
I found 2 SPRAGUE'S PIPITS in Boulder County today. Both were in very separate
places. Both were in inaccessible areas to birders. They were found inside
current Burrowing Owl Closures. Both areas currently have Burrowing Owls
present, so birders are S.O.L. if they want to go
Christian,
I want to thank you publically on Cobirds for being tough! Well for finding
these great birds, but most of all for laying it on the line to people.
Everyone else please respect what Christian has said in his message about rules
to follow when looking for these birds. When
Christian,
Great job in 1) finding the birds, 2) describing the behavior expected of
birders on protected land, and 3) giving people some education on how to find
and partially ID the birds from their behavior. I'm keeping my fingers crossed
for the good of all of us that nobody violates the
Hi All,
Just a note to let you know that I have Pink-sided Oregon Juncos at my feeder.
They've been here for a few days.

It was nice to get at least 1 cooler day! Had 2 FOS/unusual species for us.
Started the day with a Red-eyed Vireo. Then, mixed in with our apparently
never-ending supply of Chipping Sparrows, we found a Field Sparrow. A new
in-the-hand bird for me! Here's the rundown of today's 41 new birds
Greetings All,
I spent an arduous day hitting various spots in Boulder and Weld County
Shorebirds seem to have sped off in front of the cold snap
Panama Res had EXCELLENT viewing at sunrise, as the sun is at least partly
behind you as you look at the main mudflat area, and heatwaves are
Another possible place to look for pipits would be the Mayhoffer trail
(trailhead on the E side of 66th, near the intersection with Marshall road.)
You can't leave the trail, but it goes right over the top of Lake Mesa, within
easy sight of the pipit site on Davidson Mesa.
