Birders,
Some time back there was a discussion on Cobirds about the hunting season on
Eurasian Collared-Dove.
As I recall, and I could be wrong about this as my memory doesn't always
give same day service anymore, the discussion ended with the conclusion that
there is a season on them and not an
I spoke with the sanitation district Wednesday to get more specific info on
what they plan to do at the east end of the Canon City Riverwalk (sending
it to me Monday). I asked if they would be working there over the long
Thanksgiving week-end and they said they would not. Since they have so far

Around noon today I discovered 4 COMMON REDPOLLS procuring Colorado Blue Spruce
seeds from cones in the southwest quadrant of Section E in Grandview Cemetery,
Fort Collins (Larimer). The birds, 2 female or immature types and 2 adults,
were high on the north sides of tall spruce, feeding among c
I went over to Bittersweet Park in Greeley early this morning and saw one
snow goose and one blue phase in the mob of thousands of geese, mostly
cackling, some regular Canada Geese. There were lots of gulls, so you
can't get careless about identifying the white geese. Also, saw some
mallards and

About mid-day today I had five different species of goose at Dodd Reservoir
(west of CO 119 on Niwot Road; for best and safest viewing go to the parking

Among the white-cheeked geese, my guess was that lesser Canada Goose was most

This morning at Lathrop State Park we saw a lone Common Loon, 6 Western
Bluebirds and a single Eastern Bluebird. We are scratching our heads wondering
where all the Mountain Bluebirds are...they are usually so numerous at Lathrop
this time of year...very odd.
Back at the house we have a late Co
A re-visit to the Handicapped Fisherman's bridge early this am turned
up the Pomarine Jaeger almost immediately; it was in flight for the
entire 45 min- 1 hr that we stayed, except for one brief water
landing. It entered into a couple or three skirmishes with gulls, but
generally just flew long ci
I continued a nice visit to Colorado with a wonderful surprise this morning. I
walked to get the Sunday paper at the "Other Side" restaurant on Mary's Lake
Road on the west side of Estes Park. I always count birds when I do this.
After collecting the paper I walked across Mary's Lake Road and
The eastern towhee reported yesterday at Valco Ponds is still present. It was
foraging out in the open near the area reported yesterday. There were also
seven rusty blackbirds where the path takes a sharp turn toward the west.

I put a backyard feeder out yesterday afternoon for the first time, and
this morning a white winged dove was the second bird I saw. I'm relatively
new to Colorado and don't have a sense of how unusual this one is, but it's
on the CFO list of birds to report, so...
