Yesterday, Jan 1, my wife saw a northern pygmy-owl at Red Rocks Park in El
Paso County; off Hwy 24 - just west of 31st street. It was seen at the large
pond, sitting in a cottonwood. I have always thought that this place (since
it opened a few years ago) should be perfect for little owls. Loads of

The Crook CBC had a great turnout yesterday and as a consequence we had one of
the best counts yet! So far we have 84 species, a new count high. We had 10
species new to the count. Some of the highlights are 1 Snowy Owl and a Rusty
Blackbird at Jumbo and a Double-crested
Yesterday, a birder at Fountain Regional Park told us there was a Lesser
Black-backed Gull at Big Johnson Reservoir; we stopped there on our way home
and it was easily re-found on the ice.

2012 is starting out great with a new yard bird this morning - a White-winged
Dove. While they have been in Colorado Springs for maybe 10 years or so, this
is the first for me on the west-side in Pleasant Valley.

Today at 10:05 am we had an Adult Male Bullock's Orioe in the four
seasons neghborhood on Coronado Ave. The samel spot of the Pine
Warbler last year. The oriole was seen eating berries a few houses
down. We have pictures with a 600mm lens so it is really obvious. The

About 35 observers counted 100 species on Sunday Jan 1 for the Loveland CBC
(previous high species total was 93). New birds for the count were:
Tundra Swan, Blue-winged Teal, Iceland Gull (3), Mew Gull, Barn Owl, Rock Wren,
Eastern Bluebird (2), Lincoln’s Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow (2). New High
Chuck Hundertmark and Pete Plage found a Snowy Owl this afternoon (1/2/12) on
the Barr Lake CBC.
Here are the directions. Take Bromley Lane (152nd) east from I-76 and go two
miles past Piccadilly To Harvest Rd. Turn right and proceed for about 1.25+
miles to the south. The owl is in a
