First off I had an adult Band-tailed Pigeon at my feeder this morning. We have
had them in the past, but not this early in the year as this one was.
Also I have been monitoring two pairs of Northern Pygmy-Owl both of which have
hatched. I know this because the female is bringing food
Birders,
This a.m. I heard a Red-eyed Vireo singing in my back yard (yard bird #125)
and then heard a Western Tanager across the street.
I thought it could be a good morning so I went to Apex Trail and Welchester
Tree Park and I was wrong. Only residents with the only warbler for the
morning
In spite of the apparent lack of migratory birds this year, three of us
ventured forth with our big day plans yesterday. We were optimistic that at
least the weather was forecast to be excellent throughout the day. We were
owling in the mountains by 4:00 am and quickly got Flammulated,

I now have both male and female Orioles coming to the sugar water at the
window. He drank long after the sun went down last night. Even lets me stand
at the window about 1 foot away from the sugar water as he drinks. Another hint

I just received a call from Cole Wild, he and Andrew Core found a KENTUCKY
WARBLER at Norma's Grove. The grove is just east of the intersection of road
57 and road 100.

I arrived in time to meet Alex Cruz Jr and Alex Cruz, Sr who found these two
warblers, both females in the SW corner of the trails (west of covered picnic
tables). They were under the largest cottonwood.

Chico Basin Ranch (fee area) on 5/16:
El Paso County:
Nancy Gobris and Steve Brown banded a molting male Summer Tanager and a fourth
Veery. Maynard saw a male Indigo Bunting, and a Gray Flycatcher was seen
pumping its tail downward in the banding area as well.

In addition to the yellow-throated species announced earlier by Brandon ,
Chico Basin Ranch ( fee area ) hosted a singing male Baltimore Oriole at Ranch
HQ and a Gray-cheeked Thrush at Rose Pond . Nancy banded a male Summer Tanager
to while we were birding elserwhere.

I will be leading a Canon City field trip to see some of the Bobolinks that
I posted about that will take place this Saturday, May 19. Sorry for the
short notice but I am afraid the Bobolinks will not be here for another
week-end since the hay was already quite high (due to warm spring temps)
An adult male MacGilli vray's Warbler sang lustily at 8:30 am this am on Willow
Creek Trail, Roxborough SP, easily viewed for at least 10 minutes from the
bench near the bridge crossing the tiny running creek. An unidentified bird of
similar size was seen flying low into the brush below the

A male singing Hooded Warbler was found by Steve Getty this morning just
east of the boardwalk trail near Bear Creek Nature Center in Colorado
Springs. Bear Creek Regional Park is an under birded park with some
goodies from time to to. Any bird sightings between now and May 22 would

This morning there was a singing Hooded Warbler at Bear Creek Nature Center in
Colorado Springs.
It was just east of the Bear Creek Visitors Center around the wooden boardwalk
area.
