Hello,
This afternoon after 3:30 I had a *Golden-crowned Sparrow* in the company
of 8 White-crowned on the south end of the oxbow lake at Centennial Park.
The oxbow lake is off the north side of the big lake north of the covered
picnic area. Bird was at 39.634254 x -105.019886. Centennial P
Hello Fellow COBIRDERS!
What is a "Big Sit" you ask?
Well a Big Sit is similar to the birding event called a "Big Day", in both
events participants try to count as many species as possible, the difference
is that in a Big Day you travel all over a geographical area whereas during
a Big Sit you s
As Nick surmised, our post was from Tuesday and spent 24 hours in cyberspace. I
don't know why it took so long to appear.
I hope this proved not to be a problem for anyone.

Dear Hermit Warbler chasers,
Note the date and time of Mel and Jeanne’s note – apparently their observation
was from Tuesday afternoon, not this afternoon. I was among the unsuccessful
chasers today. Some additional species that moved through the oasis that were
not mentioned by others were:

Birding friends,
Here's our chance to help say "thanks" to Last Chance!
I am sure that we all feel grateful for the easy access birders have had to
the crossroads community
of Last Chance, Colorado, over many years. Soon after the devastating fire
of June 25th swept through almost 50,000 acres

Thanks to all who reported on the Hermit Warbler at Last Chance. We got a late
start today and did not arrive there until just a couple of minutes after 3pm.
We went straight to the northeast corner and began our search. After about 20
minutes, the bird landed on one of the mailboxes and then
Another cold morning, but at least no wind today, allowing us to keep the
station open all morning. We are continuing to enjoy a nice mix of late
fall migrants and potential winter residents, with lots of conversations
about the various subspecies/races of yellow-rumped warblers and dark-eyed

A first-year Harris's sparrow was at our feeders today with the many
white-crowned sparrows. There was also a sudden influx of pine siskins, 100 or
so, polishing off the last of the seeds on the sunflowers.

About ten birders searched for the Hermit Warbler for several hours this
morning. The Black-throated Blue Warbler wasn't found either. Birds that were
seen were 10+ Hermit Thrushes, 2 Swainson's Thrushes, 2 Northern Mockingbirds,
1 Wilson's Warbler, 20-30 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 10 White-crowned
Recently, Jack Siler's BirdingOnThe.net web page was subsumed by the ABA's
Birding News service. Both sites are services provided to birders that compile
bird email lists from around the country and world in one place. The ABA's
Birding News does exactly the same thing that birdingonthe.net/bir
There were two "Hermits" but neither of them was a warbler on a cold,
cloudy, breezy morning. Three birders searched for three hours but came up
with only one Wilson's Warbler, a sprinkling of immature White-crowned
Sparrows, and the immature Sora. All else cleared out! Don't waste your
gas.

While looking for American Golden Plover and other shorebirds at Jackson Lake
earlier this week I was quite amazed at the foraging behaviour of the thousands
of American White Pelicans now present at the reservoir. About 5:30 PM Monday,
Oct 8, I watched the Pelicans form a line parallel to the
