Jason, I will bite, although I am not an expert on hummingbird ID. Given the
late date, and the shifts in climate, it is best to consider all migratory
hummingbird species, not just the usual Colorado breeding species (i.e.
Broad-tailed Hummingbird and Black-chinned Hummingbird). I believe t

I had my first Mountain Chickadee at the feeders this morning; it seemed early,
and a little unusual only because last winter I did not see any. Usually they
are here in winter along with the Black Capped Chickadees. I have been gone
for several weeks and missed the snow storm, so maybe they
Thanks to the 45+ people that stopped by yesterday to help add species to
the list, The Big Sit! at Chatfield was a great success! The weather
cooperated this year (for once) and everyone that attended had a great time.
Below are the results. Interesting was the 5 Steller's Jays that passed by.
Hi
I would tend to agree with Nick's analysis for immature Black-chinned. Most
young hummers have shorter bills than adult and male bills are shorter females,
which may explain a discrepancy in bill length.

My recent quick visit to Lamar (9-13October with one full day spent in Baca
County) resulted in a tally of 94 species. After seeing that beautiful Hermit
Warbler on the way down (thanks Cathy Sheeter (check out her art website) and
Steve), Lamar seemed fairly low-key. Best birds in Lamar
If anyone is interested in trying to see the Yellow-throated Warbler in Pueblo,
it seems to be hanging out with Yellow-rumped Warblers in the extreme eastern
part of the Osprey Picnic Area, below Pueblo Reservoir dam in Rock Canyon. Not
too far east of the small wooden bridge, the bird was
Hello All,
Nothing exciting to report. Michael Kiessig, Rob Raker, and I stated
at the Red Rocks feeders this morning and finished at Bear Creek Lake
Park (BCLP).
With all the recent reports of winter residents arriving in Colorado,
we were hoping for a rarity of sorts at the Red Rocks
Hi Cobirders. Yesterday a W. Scrub Jay flew into the front yard to
the ground and up into the bare branches of the small tree in front
of the windows. Probably
the same one here earlier in the month. Possible the immature one
that came with the snow last fall. Not typical scrub Jay
Hi CObirders
I relocated a single American Dipper in Clear Creek, east of Lowell Blvd in
Adams Co. I was on the Lowell Blvd. bridge. I find the bird regularly at
this location.

Yesterday I drove down to check out the La Junta area reservoirs. On my
way I spotted a dark phase Harlan's Hawk, the first I have seen this
season, and a pair of adult Bald Eagles.
Lake Holbrook is still totally dry as no rains recently (and they will not
fill it with irrigation water until the
This morning I birded Veteran's Park on the west side of Canon City. It
has many hackberry trees and there were a few dozen Yellow-rumps feeding in
them. The Robins and Cedar Waxwings were in a feeding frenzy as the
hackberry fruit is apparently ripe for their taste. I found my first of
