[cobirds] Union Reservoir news, Weld County

2012-11-27 Thread Tom Wilberding
Does fracking threaten some birds in Colorado, specifically at Longmont’s Union Reservoir? Politics and COBirds don’t often mix—like hunting, cats, (and birdseed)—too hot. But many birders often visit Union Reservoir. And many of us have seen the documentary *Gasland* which shows barnyard anim

[cobirds] Common Redpolls, E. Boulder County (not Baseline Reservoir)

With all the Common Redpolls being seen this year, a couple more may not get anyone too excited. I just had two (one definite male, possibly two) at my feeder. However, what's interesting is that, last year, I had a single male Common Redpoll at the same feeder on November 28. Today is 365 da

I guess the smaller gull with a black bill with a yellow tip at Pueblo Reservoir today, isn't a Sabine's Gull, though it is unknown what it might be.  If you were hoping to see a Sabine's Gull, I guess this bird isn't one.  Gulls are really annoying, just like swans and "winter" type wrens. Two

Yesterday when I was looking at Marston from both the east and west side, I counted a total of 5 Common Loons. On the west side next to the water was a Say's Phoebe. The new bird for yesterday was 1,American White Pelican. In general bird numbers were down compared to previous days. The

Hi All, Joel Such, Levi Stone, and I found a Dunlin feeding with a flock of Killdeer at Jimm Hamm Pond (just across the county line from Union Res.) today at about 3:15 PM. I presume this might be the same bird seen by Ted Floyd at Panama Res a few days ago. Good Birding! Marcel Such NW of Lyon

Thanks Tom, I would agree it's a concern, even without the uncertainties of fracking's impact... See this summary of a study by CU doctoral student Clint Francis, along with Dr. Alex Cruz and Catherine Ortega of Ft Lewis http://www.colorado.edu/news/releases/2009/07/23/noise-pollution-negativel
