Hi CoBirders
I was able to find an American Dipper in Clear Creek at Lowell Blvd. (Adams
Co.) today at 9:53 am. A Belted Kingfisher and Mallards were also present.
This stretch of Clear Creek is subject to heavy suds, including earlier
this week. So I suspect the dippers are no better at
COBirders,
The female-type Long-tailed Duck and the male Barrow's Goldeneye were still
at Big Johnson Reservoir this morning. Both birds required some patience
to find, but gave very good views and then they disappeared most likely
behind the dam and I could not refind them. These most likely

At Marston Reservoir this morning, Dec. 1st:
Two white-winged scoters.
A third un-identifible scoter too far away to see - it had a very dark
overall cast - almost charcoal color.
All 3 scoters were traveling together.
A Common loon in close.
Another loon very far
According to the USGS site:

this is why the collar is U856 and not 958n:

Hello all,
I will be visiting Colorado this December. I am hoping somebody could tell me

Hello All,
Michael Kiessig and I enjoyed watching a female Common Redpoll??? near
the Boat Launch area in Bear Creek Lake Park this morning. The bird
was with a large flock of American Tree Sparrows plus a few Song
Sparrows and some House Finches. The area is directly east of the
road
Hello All,
Michael Kiessig and I threw some seed out at the feeders behind the
Red Rocks Trading Post and the Golden-crowned Sparrow appeared after
about 10 minutes. This was around 8 A.M.

Great news-yesterday USFWS has *proposed* Lesser Prairie-Chickens for TE
listing! It now goes through the process of accepting comments on the
proposed listing. And now that there is some real 'push' there are folks
working to get some real conservation efforts that could be voluntary that

Hello All,
Around 11:15 A.M. Michael Kiessig and I saw a Harlan's Hawk sitting
on a light pole on the west side of C470 between W. Quincy and W.
Belleview Avenues. As soon as we stopped the car (at some distance),
the bird left the light pole, did some circling and then flew toward

I took this photo this morning in Boulder - I finally got the banded swan

This is why a few of us who have seen him think Trumpeter when we first
see him. When I was out earlier
I visited Falcon today and found the dunlin on the edge of the pond on Lambert.
I then went to Turkey Creek Ranch where I found red-naped sapsucker and
Williamson's sapsucker. There was also a juvenile sapsucker in the same tree
as the red-naped, but I did not get a good enough look at it
The Fox Sparrow was there this afternoon between about 230-245PM. I had
been at the spot with James Lamoureux yesterday
but was not able to get a clear look at the bird even though I was only
about 20 feet from James; bad angle.
Anyhow, persistence paid off; got some nice looks and I ran into
There is indeed one more White-winged Scoter. Joe Roller and I were both over
on the western side of Marston. Joe got his scope on the third Scoter way
before I did. We saw the Surf Scoter which is far out in the lake with 2
White-winged Scoters. The 3 are close together in the central
At 4 pm today (Dec 1) a BARN SWALLOW was flying over the
Boulder Sewage treatment plant busily feeding off the
abundant insect swarms. This location is along the path
next to Boulder Creek west of N. 75th Street. The bird
was near the eastern end where the big black pipe crosses
the creek.
