At Lower Hoffman Lake this morning (7:30 AM - 9 AM): More of the lake
surface has melted off so there were a bazillion Canada Geese milling
about. OK, probably around 1000 at any one time. Also:
- I saw only one Trumpeter Swan, an adult. Unless this is a different
bird than I saw 2 weeks
A huge thanks to Ted and Dave for arranging this tremendous annual event. If
it gets any bigger, Ted is going to have to arrange for crowd control! As
evidence of the general conviviality of birders, only a few minor fistfights
broke out ( :-) ).anyway, this was a truly enjoyable event,
Birders,
Today Tammy and I made another try for the Acorn Woodpecker in the Springs
and it was very cooperative. It looks like an adult male to me.

Hi All,
I beg to differ, Norm. I think there are really two species. White-headed Gulls

This morning while walking around Martin Lake at Lathrop State Park...Paul
spotted a Northern Pygmy-Owl right next to the walking path...practically
at eye level. Of course neither of us had our cameras. We watched for quite
awhile at very close range...less than 15 ft. from us and not at all

John,
You bring up an interesting topic that hasn't been formally presented to the
Colorado Bird Records Committee (CBRC) with respect to a submitted report that

Having regretfully missed yesterday's festivities at Valmont Res, I
thought I'd finally get over to look for the Rusty Blackbirds at Sand Creek
and the S. Platte River just south of I-270. Six were perched in the
cottonwood just above the confluence upon arrival around 1 pm. They flew

This morning Cathy Sheeter and I went out for a few hours birding. We started
along the Poudre River Trail, just north of Greeley at 35th (turn s. from O
Street), and park on the west side of 35th just s. of the river. Walk west
along the trail towards the deafening roar of
Birders,
the error of my ways on the ID as to the sex of the Acorn Woodpecker in
Colorado Springs has been pointed out to me.
After reviewing my pictures, it is clear that I was wrong and that this is a
female Acorn Woodpecker.
thank you to Bill for pointing this out in a very tactful manner.
My wife and son spotted the neighborhood Northern Cardinal at our feeders
(at 3rd and Forest) around 4:45 this afternoon (2/3/13). Wish I could have
joined in the Gullapalooza festivities yesterday, but had a concert to play
right in the middle of the afternoon. Good birding,
Thomas Heinrich
