Dave’s information is interesting in how typical it is for us to discount
previous events when we discuss current events. An important fact to also
note is the mention of the use of a 30 year average of the temperatures in
the evaluation. This lessens the actual change in this year’s

Phillips County today
he saw a PIPING PLOVER near the airfield, which is
just east and a little south of Holyoke. It was on a concrete pad upon
which some

Very good point, Norm. A huge jump next year of 100 ppm of CO2 shows only a
change of 3 ppm on the 30 year average. No wonder that we hear of a small
change and discount it as insignificant. Do they use 30 year running averages
for ocean temperatures also?

Larry raises a good question about ocean temperatures. I do not have an
answer for that. Another area where there is a much shorter period of data
is Arctic sea ice extent. The data only extends to 1979. This is because

Greetings Cobirders,
For anyone looking to see the recently arrived Bobolinks there are numerous at
the Open Spaces and Mountain Parks Cherryvale admin building for Boulder
County. Many of the birds were graciously posing on the fence line along the
entrance road giving excellent views.
The best day of the spring so far at Chico Basin Ranch (fee area) for warblers.
I saw 15 species of warblers today (missed Chat, which I saw last time I was
there). A few other birders were also present, and saw most of these birds.

Hi COBirders,
As Brandon P already posted, we had a good morning banding (RMBO) at Chico
Basin Ranch this morning. Like the past three mornings, it got warm quickly,
and birds were pretty sedentary after about 10am. About 45 new birds were
banded.
Highlights (full report to follow soon):
I did mean to note breeding behavior in my earlier post.
. Many Canada Geese on nest; one pair with 3 goslings.
. American Crow pair built nest over a month ago at south end of
parking lot; I had thought they abandoned it after wind seemed to destroy
part of it; but today I
There were 2 Glossy Ibis feeding within a flock of 27 White-faced Ibis at Crom
Lake (Weld CR31 about a half mile south of CR90 = 1 mile west of the town of
Pierce). Last seen at 2pm. Good scope views possible.
Norma's Grove on Weld CR100 e of Weld CR57 was fairly quiet with the most
As Joe Roller already posted, I saw a male Piping Plover this morning in
Phillips County, between county road 41 and the Holyoke airport. It was in a
very shallow pool on a concrete slab, along with a Lesser Yellowlegs. By 10
A.M., both birds were gone.

The weather report predicted cooler today, but it really didn't seem that
way. Only banded 14 birds, plus caught 4 birds that we had banded in prior
years, including a Chat that we banded as an adult in 2006!
Our excitement for the day was catching a banded Broad-tailed Hummingbird.
