Took a walk at Standley Lake Regional Park in Westminster last evening and
saw a Bullock's Oriole building a nest in a large tree along the canal
path. Being a fairly new birder, it was my first sighting.

I thought the N. Cardinal that spent the winter in my neighborhood had departed
for more fertile grounds, especially after reading about the sighting in S.
Boulder. But last evening it visited my feeders and this morning it was singing
its heart out for a mate in my backyard.

COBirders,
Thanks to a number of phone calls and text messages, I drove to Beidleman
Nature Center, a.k.a. Catamount Institute, a part of Sondermann Park in Colo
Spgs to search for the previously reported Blackburnian Warbler (by Bob
Gooycolea via Ken Pals), first seen on 23 May. The warbler
This morning near 7:30 I saw a male Blue Grosbeak just to the south-east of
Kingfisher Bridge on one of the horse trails leading away from the Platte

Just before noon, the beautiful adult male Blackburnian Warbler was seen by
several of us (Kara Carragher, Lisa Edwards, Bill Maynard, Bob Harnish, and
couple other birders). It was in the North East part of the parking lot, in
the ponderosa pines trees. The bird was also seen by Robb Hinds,
My apologies on any confusion about the location in Lyons I referred to as Bear

I have had a young Blue Jay (small gray crest and head) terrorizing birds
that try to use my hanging, screened in sunflower seed feeder. It has
pecked House Finches feeding inside the wire until they come out and then
he will ride them to the ground. He continues to peck the finches on the
Boulder Bird Club trip to Lyons area Sat morn..
Not much unusual, but did NOT see.Cordilleran Flycatcher, House Sparrow,
Golden Eagle (all usual Lyons late May sure things).
3 pinyon jays daily around the house (Larimer County by 50 yards), along
with 50 pine siskins!!

Last night's full moon and west winds, pushed most of the rare eastern migrants
away from Chico Basin Ranch (fee area) today.
There was a female American Redstart at the banding station in El Paso County.
There was a singing young male American Redstart (sounding like a bay-breasted

After getting great looks at the beautiful Blackburnian warbler at Sondermann
today, I stopped by Big Johnson Reservoir. I did not see the common or
Forster's terns, but there was a black tern flying around. There were also two
common loons swimming together. David ChartierColorado Springs
Had about 4 nice hours this morning - sunny, no wind - before the heat set

banded in prior seasons. The star of the morning was a Yellow-billed
Cuckoo. Here's the breakdown:

Joe, I had a problem with sending in a message to Cobirds last year. Ira
Sanders called me from, I believe, Chico Basin, with several good birds. He
asked that I send them in to Cobirds. I did this, using my daughter's
iPhone. And I used my name and home base of Centennial in my message.
COBirders,
The Blackburnian Warbler reported earlier was still around the parking area
at the Beidlelman Environmental Center/Catamount Institute as of 7:00 p.m.
this evening. Allan and Theresa Burns, Seetta Moss, Robb Hines were
already there to help me find it. It was in the pines in the NE
I find myself in Colorado Springs this weekend, but without wheels. If anyone
would like a birding companion early Sunday morning I would be interested in
joining you for local birding, even Chico Basin Ranch. Reply offline and we can
set it up.
