Birders, Early this afternoon, I found an adult, light phase Pomarine Jaeger while working at Adobe Creek Reservoir. It was on the shoreline, and swimming just offshore on the east side of the point of land that juts north into the lake in the SW corner of the Reservoir. As it seems to be

Last Saturday my son Bob took my car and me from 10AM to 2:30PM here, Great for handicapped birders . The Wildlife Drive Auto Tour is especially good for viewing birds. There is a wide shoulder (dirt) to pull off on to view birds from the car . Most of the road is tree lined too.

In Daughenbaugh Open Space north of Cherry St. and Coal Creek in Louisville, I saw an amazing sight Sunday evening: a GBH stalking baby prairie dogs! I didn't see it catch one, but I couldn't help but imagine the heron trying to swallow a prairie dog. It might not be so different from

Many years ago at Little Gaynor Lake along Oxford Rd. west of US 287 in Boulder County, I not only saw a Great Blue Heron capture a baby prairie dog, but then take it, while it dangled from its bill, to the lake and drown it before flipping it up in the air to catch and swallow it. Bill

Hi Mark and Chuck, Steve Martin had these two species produce hybrid offspring on his property near Wellington several years ago (mid-1990's, as I recall, see cover of CFO Journal during that period for a pic), and I have had Mountains nest at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins a few times

I watched a Great Blue Heron catch and eventually swallow a smallish muskrat at Gilbert Water Ranch near Phoenix in April (the drowning part didn't really work here but it clamped down around the neck after several dunks and eventually cut off its air while standing tall out of the water.). I

I fell asleep in early evening last night so didn't post that the TRICOLORED HERON was seen by at least 3 birders yesterday morning (but it evaded me after I spoke with a couple of them). So with John Drummond's post it was present both morning and mid-afternoon yesterday. I did not go out today
