I checked some of the lakes in Kiowa, Bent, and Otero Counties yesterday
and also looked for some land birds. Flagler SWA was rather quiet
yesterday morning, so it seems that most of those birds that Mark Peterson
reported hunkered down in the wind found an opportunity to continue on
their way
At 7:55 AM this morning Tom Schlosser and I were out at the point on the west
of the Marina, close to the Fishermans pier. There were about 40 cormorants
and maybe 80 gulls enjoying the morning sun.. sitting on the marina tires.

Around noon today I found a basic-plumaged Red Phalarope at Adobe Creek
Reservoir in Kiowa County. It is in the Southeast corner of the
reservoir, almost directly north of the two boat ramps (which are far
from water due to low water levels). Drive north to the lake, and east

I walked the Rock Canyon side of the River this morning, below Pueblo Reservoir
dam. Highlights: three White-throated Sparrows, one Black Phoebe, a Gray
Catbird, an Osprey, one Wilson's Warbler, two Orange-crowned Warblers, two
Hermit Thrushes, a few Mountain Chickadees, a few Chipping Sparr

I spent 4 hours this morning at Chatfield admiring the Pomarine Jaeger show and
have posted some pics of the beast at the following link. A Short-eared Owl
flying over the lake was a bit of a surprise!
